Is there something you feel called to do? Do you have a recurring dream about starting a new endeavor? You may have been stuck in complacency and comfort because you’re scared to move forward with a vision or a calling. Or maybe you have taken the first steps toward your vision, but things are slow-going, and while you wait for your promise to take root and begin to develop, it’s uncomfortable and frustrating. Sometimes, we feel God’s delay is His denial…because we don’t know what He’s doing behind the scenes. It can feel like we can do little to nothing to move forward. But, looking at our situation through the lens of faith, we see that in the middle of little and nothing, God always directs us to do something. Psalm 37:3 says, “Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.” Whatever dream God’s planted inside of you…whatever seed that’s been deposited – even if it’s been dormant for a while….whatever that small beginning, You’ve got to do your part to cultivate it. That’s what’s so powerful about Zechariah 4:10--the Lord didn’t wait until the work was finished to rejoice. He rejoiced when He saw the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand! Do you know what a plumb line is? It’s a weight suspended from a string used as a vertical reference line to ensure a structure is centered. It’s essentially a vertical level. The Lord rejoiced over seeing the tool used to begin the work in Zerubbabel’s hand. What’s your small beginning? Voting is such an important right and one that every eligible citizen should exercise. There are so many things Americans take for granted — one being our religious freedom. In many countries, Christianity is illegal—but what, exactly, does that mean? The severity of the laws (and the punishments for breaking them) vary depending upon the specific country. In most cases, it means Christians cannot gather to worship together in churches. Nor can they publicly express their faith or attempt to preach the gospel and attempt to lead others to adopt that faith. It frequently also means that simply owning a Bible or talking about Christianity—even among family members in the privacy of one’s own home—can result in imprisonment or death. As American citizens we have a surplus of access to biblical content and theological information. But what good is it if we never apply it? What experiential knowledge are we gaining if those studies we bought, never get opened? How will the Word of God ever take root in us if our Bibles sit dusty on a shelf? The very Bibles others are dying to read…literally. This post is so much more than a charge to get your “I voted” sticker and enjoy a cappuccino—(obviously, it’s a no-brainer that Bible study time goes hand in hand with a good cup of coffee) but the challenge is…to live out what we say we believe!
